Overview

Motorvate Therapies Ltd is Social Enterprise Company which aims to provide therapy and literacy services to support young people and their families living with additional support needs. Learning through movement and sensory experiences allows young people to experience success and enjoy the journey towards positive learning at home and School.

Motorvate Therapies Ltd will provide assessment, intervention at many levels and support to young people with additional support needs (and their families) from 0-18years. In addition the delivery of training will empower those working with young people with additional support needs to provide the essential 24 hour approach that the young person requires to succeed in day to day activities including school and leisure.

Objectives of Motorvate Therapies Ltd

  • To provide standardised assessments/non-standardised assessment and clinical evaluation of the referred young person’s additional support needs.
  • To provide intervention in the form of individual and/ or group sessions to address each young person’s specific challenges. This will include building self-esteem and resilience to allow them to take part in activities in the wider community and to experience inclusion.
  • To work jointly with parents, the young person and the school to formulate measurable treatment goals and to identify and implement a 24 hour approach for the young person.
  • To provide training for parents, carers and professionals to enhance their knowledge of additional support needs. This will provide them with skills to support the young person’s specific challenges and to recognise the young person’s individual skills.
  • To provide the opportunity for networking thus providing support for Parents / Carers and Professionals.
  • To provide opportunities for work experience for senior pupils in local schools.  Pupils will support young children with specific difficulties in Sports Therapy Groups.  Work placements will be credited to Voluntary Award Schemes.
  • To ensure company profits are used to provide affordable services for all who require Motorvate Services.

Our team consists of an Occupational Therapist and a Teacher who specialise in supporting the learning of children with specific learning difficulties.

Susan DooganSusan Doogan, BSc OT (1992)

Specialist in the field of Paediatric Occupational Therapy (OT) for 20 years within the NHS & Education Authority

  • Head of Paediatric OT Service for 8 years
  • Registered under the health professions council & a member of the British Association of Occupational Therapists
  • Accredited to use standardised movement and perceptual assessments

Brigid DuthieBrigid Duthie, Teacher, Dip. Dom Sc (1971), P.G. Teaching Diploma (1972), P.G. Diploma in Special Educational Needs (1996)

  • Over 20 years teaching pupils with additional support needs
  • Principal Teacher of Support for Learning in large city secondary school for 9 years
  • Registered with the General Teaching Council
  • Scottish Lifetime Achievement Award for Teaching (2011)
  • Finalist of UK Lifetime Achievement Award for Teaching (2011).

Brigid and Susan have worked together in their respective public service jobs for many years. They recognised that together, their individual skills can provide an excellent skill mix to meet the needs of children with additional support challenges across Scotland and also to provide a forum to support parents/carers and professionals supporting young people with additional support needs.

Associates

We are looking to enhance our service by working with associates with other professional skills.
Based in Perth, the experienced team in Motorvate Therapies Ltd has years of expertise in working with children with specific learning and co-ordination difficulties, their families and with professionals and education staff.

Stuart FarmerStuart Farmer, Teacher

Stuart has a PE teaching background and has many years of experience teaching young people with ASN.  His area of interest is working with older children who have self-esteem/behavioural issues using sport to engage and motivate the individual.  He also runs our weekly motor skills groups for young people who have a range of difficulties which can be addressed through motor skills activities and sport.
